The
Alangudi Watershed Project is a sustainable rural development initiative
implemented by Grama Seva Sangam NGO, focusing on water conservation,
soil management, and improving agricultural productivity. The project includes
activities such as field bunds, farm ponds, agro forestry, agro horticulture,
and dry land horticulture with replanting and watering support to enhance green
cover and soil moisture.
Drainage
line treatments like stone gully plugs, nalla bunds, bush clearing, sluice
reconstruction, and check weir construction help in controlling water flow and
reducing soil erosion. The project also strengthens water resources through
deepening of ooranies and supports livelihoods for landless individuals and
women, promoting economic independence and sustainable development.
