The Amburpatti & Avvaiyarpatti
Watershed Project is a sustainable rural development initiative implemented
by Grama Seva Sangam NGO, focusing on water conservation, soil
management, and improving agricultural productivity. The project adopts
integrated watershed practices to enhance groundwater recharge, prevent soil
erosion, and promote eco-friendly farming.
Key activities include area treatments such
as field bunds, farm ponds, grass seeding, agro horticulture, agro forestry,
disc ploughing, and dry land horticulture to improve soil fertility and
vegetation cover. Drainage line treatments like bush clearance, channel forming
and desilting, construction of waste weirs, and check dams help regulate water
flow and reduce land degradation.
The project also strengthens water
resources through deepening of percolation ponds, increasing water storage and
groundwater recharge. Overall, the project contributes to environmental
sustainability and improved agricultural outcomes in the region.
